Update on flooding on city roads today

Several roads around the city which were affected by flooding today following the heavy rain have now been cleared.

They include the Kingswells to Bucksburn country road which is now clear although it will be checked later, Balgownie Road at Balgownie Drive, Forest Avenue, Garthdee Road, King Street opposite Lidl, Pitmedden Road at Dyce Caravans, Culter House Road, Ballieswells Road at Littleways, Stoneywood Road under the Railway Bridge, Jute Street, Clifton Road, Farburn Terrace, Powis Terrace between the Kittybrewster council depot and Clifton Road, Cattofield Gardens, Clement Street at Wellington Street, Ferryhill Place / Marine Place, John Street Lane next to old Bank of Scotland building, and Great Northern Road.

Roads still affected include Newburgh Drive at Jesmond Drive, Newburgh Circle, Slains Avenue, Provost Fraser Drive, Victoria Street near Parkhill Way, North Deeside Road, Middlefield Crescent, Borrowstone Road, Ballieswells Road at Foggie Cottage, and Counteswells Road.

Bear Scotland has been advised of the flooding at the Asda roundabout at Garthdee as it is a trunk road. The flooding to the gullies at Springfield Road is within the hotel grounds and hotel staff have been notified. Smithfield Drive has been passed to Scottish Water as the sewer is surcharging.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman said: “Our staff are out across the city unblocking drains and clearing flood waters in difficult weather conditions, so we’d ask motorists to slow down when driving near them.

“We have cleared several floods today and are working towards the remaining roads and a response squad will continue this work into the night.

“We have been clearing leaves from streets and pavements over the last few weeks however drains still can get blocked during periods of heavy rain.

“Motorists are also advised not to drive through flood water as they do not know the depth of the flood water, even if they are in a 4x4.”
