All invited to Beach Ballroom’s 90th birthday party

Everyone is invited to join in Aberdeen Beach Ballroom’s 90th birthday celebrations, from 10am until 4pm on Monday 06 May 2019.

The Beach Ballroom, situated on the city’s stunning seafront, is an iconic art deco building, which was built in 1926 and opened to the public on 03 May 1929.

It is home to one of Scotland's finest dance floors - famous for its bounce - which floats on fixed steel springs. It’s also been the venue for some top acts before they hit the big time including the Beatles and Pink Floyd.

Today, dance competitions still play a role in the entertainment programme along with many other events including Christmas parties, Strictly Ballroom, wrestling, weddings and corporate functions.

The birthday party is being held on 06 May (May Day) to enable all ages to come along and find out more about the fascinating history of the Beach Ballroom and for others to reminisce. There are free tours and talks that look back over the nine decades and a nostalgia exhibition including posters, photographs, dance costumes.

Free tickets for guided tours and talks at 11am, 1pm and 3pm are available by telephoning the Beach Ballroomon 01224 647647 or clicking on https://thelittleboxoffice.com/beachballroom

Advanced booking is advised to avoid disappointment.

The Lord Provost of Aberdeen Barney Crockett said: “The Beach Ballroom means so much to so many people and I am sure that citizens, young and older, from near and far, will want to join in its birthday celebrations.

“Throughout this year the Beach Ballroom is looking back on nine decades of music ensuring that there is something for everyone to enjoy.

“Many fabulous memories have been made during the past 90 years and I would encourage people to come along to the Open Day on Monday 6 May and take a stroll down memory lane.”
